 There are some folk in a Writer's group and all are very good

Scribbling and composing stuff as all good Writer's should

Stories and poems flow from their imagination

Some funny, amusing and sad but always with articulation

Telling stories of their lives and  journeys both far and near 

Some for pleasure, some for work and some because of fear.

But wherever we have travelled, we join together in this place

To share tales of lives well lived and of the future we all face.

  I proposed to Julia Roberts. But for goodness sake, keep it to yourself, if word gets out there'll be a media circus. Anyway, she was in London promoting a new film and she was staying in the Dorchester. I happened to be there too and that was when we met.  I was walking down this corridor towards Reception, the Americans call it the Lobby. She came out right  in front me, out of the Ladies loo. I knew who she was straight away of course but the embarrassing thing was  she'd caught the back of her skirt in her underwear and didn't know. The story of a refugee- a short story by Maria-Elena Heed

  I was born in  Chile,  lived  in the UK for over 40 years, but seven years ago we moved to Spain. In September 1973 Salvador Allende was overthrown by the Chilean militaries financed and  supported by the USA.  C onsequently  mum, my two siblings and I fled to Argentina leaving all our belongings behind in search of our father who crossed the Andes by foot.  My father was on the military's hit list for being Allende's supporter, he would've been killed if found as it was the fate of many people.  My middle sibling and I weren't safe either. We lived clandestinely staying  in dif ferent safe houses while our mum was finding the safest way for us to travel to Argentina. We lived in San Juan, Argentina for a year or so  until my mother came to the knowledge that some Chileans were seeking refuge and being accepted under the protection of the UN in the capital, Buenos Aires. 500 WORD OPEN MIC EVENT 7th FEBRUARY 2024

  The Written Word Group was created by  Berni Albrighton  & David Holman-Hill Waters 01/12/2023. Based out of Albox, the group of writers meet up once a month to chat and listen to each other’s written work. Some of the writers are in the process of completing a novel, whilst others have varied projects on the go.  This Blog is used to further the aim of the Written Word Group and showcase the wide ranging talent that exists in this small group. We support writers in creating work, be that poetry, short stories, flash fiction.  We currently have 7 permanent members, The Magnificent Seven, and we are delighted to be celebrating our one-year anniversary. The time felt right to launch an OPEN MIC EVENT for writers of all genre.
